Creating Usenet Newsgroups

Newsgroups can be created upon the request of the Usenet customers. Customers may search for a particular newsgroup and find nothing that pertains to their subject and interest. Any newsgroup can be created as long as it falls within legal and acceptable guidelines. Most useful newsgroup names have already been taken but variations give users something to look forward to after signing up.

When a customer wants a custom newsgroup created, he or she must notify somebody that has the power to do so. Requests are sent to somebody like for the newsgroup alt.newsgroup.creation . That somebody (usually a Usenet administrator called “newsmaster”) can then add this newsgroup to one or all servers for you.

This newsgroup could then be passed along to other providers like or and even passed on to other providers around the country and the world. Before long alt.newsgroup.creation could be available to many people.
